Music and Visual Impairment Training Day

In partnership with Sight for Surrey and Baluji Shrivastav from the Inner Vision Orchestra, Rhythmix is holding a training day to raise awareness of working musically with visually impaired (VI) young people. The day includes a morning session of VI Awareness training and an afternoon of hands on practical learning using equipment and technology.

The aims of the day are;
To receive specialist training in the morning from Visual Impairment teachers on how to work with VI, the breadth of the VI spectrum, working with young people where the VI issue is secondary to another disability and understanding more about interacting with technology.
To meet and work with Baluji Shrivastav and to find out more about his Education work, the use of Indian Classical music in workshops and what it's like to be a blind professional musician. Baluji also extensively uses technology so this is a chance to see what adaptations have been made by him to enable him to use technology
To meet and work with other musicians, using technology and instruments to create sound samples and compositions that can be accessed and controlled by VI young people. The day will heavily rely on the use of Ableton and Launchpads so this is an opportunity for Ableton beginners to see the soft/hardware in action and to ask direct questions
A chance to meet and work with VI young people and to speak directly to them about their experiences in making music and how musical instruments work, or don't work for them
