Japanese Koto workshop and concert

Our very own Inner Vision Orchestra musician, Takashi Kikuchi, will be performing at this wonderful event.

Who is invited? Blind and partially sighted music-lovers, each with a sighted companion if desired. You must be a teenager or older!

During this workshop you will hear about the distinctive music of the Japanese Koto, focussing on tuning, playing technique and compositional style. You will have the opportunity to play the koto yourself. The Kakehashi Koto Ensemble, founded in 1988 in London, dressed in traditional costume will then perform.

Dr Ayako Hotta-Lister, leader of the Ensemble, is a teacher of the Koto and Sangen. She has taught, performed and given lecture/workshop concerts in Japan, Britain, France and Hong Kong. Amongst these concerts are fundraising evenings for RNIB.
Dr Takashi Kikuchi is a viola player based in London and Tokyo.

The Kakehashi Koto Ensemble play around the world. "Kakehashi" means "a spanning bridge" and the group bridge Japan and other nations through music. They play traditional Japanese music including ancient poem singing from 17th to 21st century music.

There is no cost for the workshop or concert. A retiring collection will be taken for RNIB Sunshine House School in Northwood.
